PEnQuIN APP – Pediatric Endoscopy Quality Improvement Network

The PEnQuIN APP (Pediatric Endoscopy Quality Improvement Network) is a joint international quality initiative of ESPGHAN and NASPGHAN, developed to monitor, benchmark, and improve the quality of pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy worldwide.

PEnQuIN provides a standardized, digital, and easy-to-use platform to collect key quality indicators (QIs) in pediatric endoscopy, fully aligned with international pediatric GI endoscopy recommendations.

Why PEnQuIN?

High-quality endoscopy is essential for accurate diagnosis, patient safety, and optimal outcomes in children. However, structured quality monitoring in pediatric endoscopy remains variable across centers.

PEnQuIN aims to:

  • Harmonize quality assessment across countries and institutions
  • Support continuous quality improvement (CQI)
  • Facilitate benchmarking and international collaboration
  • Promote education and research in pediatric endoscopy
  • Strengthen a shared culture of quality and safety

What is the PEnQuIN APP?

The PEnQuIN APP is a smartphone- and web-based application that allows participating centers to: Record core pediatric endoscopy quality indicators
Collect data during routine clinical practice
Store anonymized data in compliance with GDPR
Receive structured performance feedback over time

Data entry is designed to be fast and user-friendly, minimizing additional workload for clinicians.

Who Can Participate?
Participation is open to:

  • Pediatric gastroenterology units
  • Endoscopy centers performing pediatric GI procedures
  • Individual clinicians interested in quality improvement

Both academic and non-academic centers are encouraged to participate.

Participation Requirements
Participants are invited to record:

  • 100 consecutive Esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGD)
  • 100 consecutive Ileocolonoscopies (IC)

Data should be entered using the PEnQuIN APP as part of routine clinical practice.

There is no time restriction for completing data collection. This flexible approach allows participation from centers with different procedural volumes and reflects real-world clinical practice.
