What is it?
It is a relatively new project that started in September 2018 at the initiative of the Young ESPGHAN Committee. It aims to present a monthly clinical image and case on the ESPGHAN website and on the social media sites of both, YOUNG ESPGHAN and ESPGHAN (LinkedIn and Twitter).
Who can apply?
ESPGHAN/NASPGHAN members and trainees (ESPGHAN/NASPGHAN as well as non-ESPGHAN/NASPGHAN trainee members) under supervision of an ESPGHAN/NASPGHAN member/senior consultant in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
How should it look like?
The applicant should present the clinical case in a text up to 150 words including a short description of the patient's history, relevant physical and laboratory findings, clinical course, response to treatment (if any) and condition at last follow-up. A short description of the underlying disease should also be provided, including references. The text should be accompanied by images illustrative for the clinical case. Images allowed: clinical picture of the patient, radiology images (for example CT-scan, MRI-scan, cholangiogram, ERCP, interventional radiology), endoscopy images or pathology images. Concerning the clinical images, the applicants must be aware that the patient´s privacy should be fully respected as per confidentiality arrangements in applicant´s country. If photographs of patients are used, they should not be identifiable. The patient or the legal responsible are requested to sign a consent to publish that the author will keep available for review.
How to apply?
The applicant sends the proposal for a Case of the Month to the ESPGHAN Office through email@example.com.
The case and pictures monthly published must first be approved by the ESPGHAN Education Secretary and the winner of the year will be selected by the Young ESPGHAN Committee by individual voting. In case of a lack in submissions, the Young ESPGHAN committee will provide an image of the month themselves. The committee members are not eligible for the price.
The applicant with the best case of the year gets a free registration to the ESPGHAN Annual Meeting and furthermore a certificate at the Closing Ceremony of the ESPGHAN Annual meeting handed by the president.
We strongly believe that the Case of the Month gives applicants the opportunity to promote themselves on an international platform using the vast network of ESPGHAN.
