European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation
The European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation has been published in the European Official Journal and is now in force. This initiative by the European Commission facilitates the creation of a secure and trusted environment for the use and exchange of electronic health data across the European Union (EU).
It will enhance the primary use of health data by increasing individuals' access to and control over their electronic health data. It will allow them to share information with healthcare providers across EU member states securely and enable anonymized data collection for research.
The concept of sharing health data within and across countries in EU is a major step that may benefit patients, help to harmonize data, reports, etc. It may also provide a wealth of information that is precious for research and to define health policies.
ESPGHAN welcomes this new regulation as a significant step in enhancing collaboration among patients, families, and healthcare providers. Regarding the secondary objectives, ESPGHAN strives to facilitate academic research while respecting privacy, patients, and family rights.
