ESPGHAN Research Priorities

ESPGHAN publishes strategic research priorities for paediatric digestive health

ESPGHAN has published Strategic Priorities in Paediatric Research: Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, setting out its key research priorities for the years ahead. The paper identifies five areas where targeted investment could deliver lasting benefits for children, families and health systems: tackling childhood obesity, strengthening nutrition and child development in the early years, addressing chronic immune-mediated diseases, reducing inequalities in access to care across Europe, and improving the data infrastructure needed for rare digestive diseases. It also underlines that pregnancy, infancy and early childhood represent a critical window for prevention and for shaping long-term health outcomes.

Call to action

ESPGHAN is calling on EU policymakers to reflect these priorities in future funding decisions and to give paediatric digestive health the attention and investment it deserves.
